About Us
Our Story
Boardworks was founded in 2021 by a team of Oregon climbers with a simple mission: to create the ultimate training ground for climbers who are serious about progression while fostering an inclusive and equitable climbing community. We stripped away the fluff and focused on what matters most - world-class boards, essential training tools, and 24/7 access.
Our adult-only, staffless gym in Bend isn't just a place to climb; it's a launchpad for stronger, smarter climbing where everyone, regardless of background or identity, can thrive. We're committed to breaking down barriers in climbing, offering specialized programs like our Women and Queers Training Group, and continuously working to make our space welcoming to all. Whether you're projecting your first V5 or pushing into double-digit boulders, Boardworks is where passion meets performance and diversity is celebrated, any time of day or night.
Our Team
Lily Kral (she/her)
Born and raised in Portland, Lily began her climbing career as a kid at Smith, so it only makes sense that she would build her first climbing gym in Central Oregon. She has been a climber for over 20 years and a professional routesetter and gym manager for the past 10. Lily has spent most of her climbing career as a techy, vertical Smith climber, but has long aspired to be a more powerful climber. After her first go on a Kilter, she fell in love with board climbing, realized their potential as training tools and never turned back.
In 2020, Lily visualized creating a distilled, training-focused climbing gym featuring boards. More than just a training facility, she also hoped to foster a tight-knit community where members could meet other climbers easily and develop genuine friendships. After three years of planning, hard work, and ultimately a lot of help from friends and family, in 2023 Lily opened Boardworks, the first all-board climbing gym in the world. Boardworks is located in Bend, Oregon, where Lily resides with her cat, Sherman.
Trevor Roosen (he/him)
Trevor Roosen, a young “Lifer,” is an avid climber and a top professional route setter. Trevor has over two decades of climbing experience and has traveled across the country over the past ten years, setting routes at numerous gyms and immersing himself in the broader climbing community. Route-setting for professional climbers and past Olympians, as well as his own experience as a recreational and competitive climber, has given him a wealth of knowledge of the industry today. Climbing is more than just a sport for Trevor; it's a way of life that teaches resilience, problem-solving, and self-discovery. Through his coaching and program development at Boardworks, Trevor is eager to share this passion with others, inspiring them to excel in their own climbing pursuits. Trevor lives in Bend, Oregon.
